Benefits of giving to a charity

Charity

Tax deduction benefit of charitable giving is well-known. For some, it should be the last goal. But there are few other lessor known benefits of charitable giving. Here are some of my favorites.

  • Improve the life of those who are unfortunate: Your donation whether it is in kind or money will help to improve the needy. Not just material giving, volunteering your valuable time can improve not only yourself but also the life of many others.
  • Satisfy your inner most desires: A university research finds that giving activates a part of the brain that mimic the feeling that one can get from using substance or stimuli. Giving activates the deepest part of the brain giving one an immense feeling of satisfaction.
  • Help your local community: Giving to a national organization helps many at large. But if you target an area, giving to a local charitable organization is the best and produce direct and visible results. Local organizations can respond faster than national organizations when it comes to disasters. It is a good way to ascertain well-being of your community.
  • Volunteering can bring happiness as well as improve your health. Studies show that it helps seniors to improve their cognitive health. It can be a great way to reduce stress too.

ASPCA aimed to stop cruelty to animals

There are many charities that promote animal well-fare and animal rights. It is hard to find the right charity to sponsor because the definition of good animal welfare varies considerably. Most of the standards we use are under constant review and legislators muddy the field with new laws all the time.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is one of the best non-profit charities that dedicate itself to preventing cruelty to animals. Since its inception in 1866, the charity is based in New York City, New York. Its mission is “to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.”

Its main efforts concentrate on developing and providing medicine for animals, being a resource for pet owners, and have a well-run program to deal with at-risk animals. Since 1912 it runs hospitals for animals and helped to develop new innovative treatments for animals. It teaches parents how to care for animals properly and an ethical way. The at-risk animal program runs in major cities throughout the US. As the nation’s premier humane organization, ASPCA carries out other programs in caring for pets for parents and animals and serve victims of animal cruelty.
